A guide to veneers

A person’s smile can have a huge impact on their confidence. Many people feel self-conscious about imperfections in the teeth, but there is always a solution to be found. Here at Wimbledon Dental Care, we provide straightening, whitening, veneers and more to help our patients feel good about their smiles.

What are veneers?

Veneers in Wimbledon are a great solution for those who are unhappy with the appearance of their teeth. They are composed of very fine porcelain that is placed over the teeth in order to hide any flaws that the patient is unhappy with. This kind of treatment is a good alternative for many people who would rather not have crowns, teeth whitening or braces.

Veneers in Wimbledon are a means of achieving a flawless smile that is free of stained, chipped or crooked teeth. Many of our patients choose this option because it offers such great results. After treatment, the shape, colour and general appearance of the teeth is much improved. It is a relatively quick process compared to some other treatments, usually requiring just two or three appointments before completion.

How does it work?

Veneers in Wimbledon are tailor-made for each individual patient. We use moulds to create impressions of the teeth, and these are used as a guide for creating veneers that match them perfectly.

Are veneers suitable for everyone?

They are a great choice for people who want to improve the appearance of their teeth without having to get braces or dental implants. However, they are only suitable for people who have healthy gums. If there are signs of gum disease, these will have to be treated before having veneers as they will not be effective otherwise.

Children and young people are not good candidates for veneers. This is because they are fixed onto the teeth as a permanent solution that has been custom made for each individual tooth. The teeth and mouths of children and teenagers are still growing, which would mean that the veneers would not last as many years as they are supposed to.

Do they stain easily?

No! That is one of the great advantages of having veneers fitted. The porcelain from which they are made is highly resistant to staining, much more so than natural teeth. This means that the patient will not need to opt for treatments like teeth whitening in the future, as their teeth are already nice and bright!

Do they need special care?

Once treatment with veneers has been completed, the patient cares for them as they do their natural teeth. Provided they take the usual steps of brushing for two minutes twice a day, and flossing once a day, the veneers should last for many years. There is no special care required, the patient simply looks after their oral health as normal and gets to enjoy having a smile that they can be proud of.

For those considering veneers, the first step is to book a consultation with us so that we can assess the teeth and gums to decide if the patient is a good candidate. If this treatment is not suitable, we work with our patients to find the best possible solution.
